Miniature Crocheted Jewelry Workshop in February!

Crocheted Jewelry

Learn to create stunning and delicate crocheted jewelry in this one-day workshop. Students will develop their crocheting skills by working on a miniature scale. The details created with these tiny stitches are irresistible and lend themselves well to the jewelry-scale embellishments. Great gift idea! Prerequisite: Basic crocheting skills. Sarah LaBarre is an artist whose work is informed by the language of painting, but uses a vocabulary appropriated from traditional fiber techniques and media. She draws upon histori- cal decorative and textile designs combining these blueprints with soft reflective portraiture. A graduate of OCAC, Sarah is now a practicing fiber artist who has exhibited nationally. Fall Workshop at OCAC


Hi Everyone! I'm teaching another workshop this fall. Details are below. I'm very excited about this one as it utilizes one of my favorite techniques. There's still room, so sign up quickly before it fills!

Embroidering on Air:
Using Water-Soluble Stabilizers

Solvy is a water-soluble fabric stabilizer which can be used to create lace-like fiber structures.
This intensive two-day workshop exploresfree-motion embroidery and layering techniques using Solvy to create beautiful and unique pieces of art. Students begin by experimenting
and creating samples to use as a starting point. Each student will create a project of their own design. Projects could include a three-dimensional embellishment for a garment, a piece of
fiber jewelry or a stand-alone piece of art. Students of all levels interested in broadening their
range of fiber techniques are bound to enjoy learning about the magic of Solvy! Prerequisite:
Basic machine sewing skills. Location: Construction Studio

The Quilting Stitch as Mark-Making

The quilting stitch not only joins the quilt’s layers, but also provides an opportunity to add design and personal expression to the finished quilt. In this workshop we will learn to generate multiple designs for a whole-cloth quilt top while we explore how hand and machine stitching can support personal mark-making as artistic expression. No prerequisite. Location: Construction Studio
